Truth Heals: What You Hide Can Hurt You

Truth Heals: What You Hide Can Hurt You
Truth Heals: What You Hide Can Hurt You by Deborah King
2008 | EPUB | 203.93KB

Millions of us live with chronic and debilitating pain or disease, and sadly, that number is growing every day. In Truth Heals, which was originally self-published, Deborah King, Ph.D. explores the relationship between the suppression of truth and how this later manifests into pain or illness. Using her years of experience as an expert healer, Dr. King creates a roadmap for people to learn how to recognize and release emotional blockages, share truth in a safe and healing manner, and unlock the power of truth without reliving negative experiences or causing more harm. Through client histories, celebrity profiles, and her own remarkable journey, the author demonstrates how anyone can release deep-seated layers of denial, fear, and anger in order to heal the mind and body.

The Paleo Manifesto: Ancient Wisdom for Lifelong Health

The Paleo Manifesto: Ancient Wisdom for Lifelong Health
The Paleo Manifesto: Ancient Wisdom for Lifelong Health by John Durant
2013 | EPUB | 3.09MB

In The Paleo Manifesto: Ancient Wisdom for Lifelong Health, John Durant argues for an evolutionary – and revolutionary – approach to health. All animals, human or otherwise, thrive when they mimic key elements of life in their natural habitat. From diet to movement to sleep, this evolutionary perspective sheds light on some of our most pressing health concerns. What is causing the rise of chronic conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, and depression? Is eating red meat going to kill you? Is avoiding the sun actually the best way to avoid skin cancer?

Durant takes readers on a thrilling ride to the Paleolithic and beyond, unlocking the health secrets of our ancient ancestors. What do obese gorillas teach us about weight loss? How can Paleolithic skulls contain beautiful sets of teeth? Why is the Bible so obsessed with hygiene? What do NASA astronauts teach us about getting a good night’s sleep? And how are Silicon Valley techies hacking the human body?

Blending science and culture, anthropology and philosophy, John Durant distills the lessons from his adventures and shows how to apply them to day-to-day life, teaching people how to construct their own personal “habitat” that will enable them to thrive. The book doesn’t just address what we eat, but why we eat it; not just how to exercise, but the purpose of functional movement; not just being healthy, but leading a purposeful life.

Combining the best of ancient wisdom with cutting edge science, Durant crafts a vision of health that is both fresh and futuristic.

Chakra Frequencies: Tantra of Sound

Chakra Frequencies: Tantra of Sound
Chakra Frequencies: Tantra of Sound by Jonathan Goldman, Andi Goldman
2011 | EPUB | 3.08MB

Using the science of sound healing for higher consciousness, stronger relationships, planetary oneness, and physical and emotional healing.

  • Offers exercises with breath, tone, sacred vowel sounds, and the chanted Bija Mantras to activate and balance the chakras for greater health and harmony
  • Shows how to practice sound healing individually or with a partner to enhance communication, reduce stress, and create inner balance and peace
  • Previous edition won the Best Book in Alternative Health Award from the Coalition of Visionary Resources

As both ancient spiritual masters and modern quantum physicists acknowledge, the universe is vibration. Through sound and its ability to communicate with our chakras and subtle body, we can tap into the vibration of the universe for greater harmony and stronger relationships; physical, emotional, and spiritual healing; expanded consciousness; and planetary oneness.

In this step-by-step guide, sound healing pioneer Jonathan Goldman and his wife, holistic psychotherapist Andi Goldman, reveal specific ways the voice can resonate the physical and subtle bodies, including 7 powerful chanted Bija Mantras and sacred vowel sounds to balance and align the chakras. Providing exercises with breath, tone, mantras, and seed sounds, the authors show how to practice sound healing either individually or with a partner to strengthen relationships, reach deeper emotional levels, enhance communication, reduce stress, achieve inner balance, and create harmony with those around you as well as the whole planet. The accompanying 60-minute CD offers correct pronunciation and examples of the Bija Mantras, sacred vowels, seed sounds, and vocal exercises in the book as well as recordings of Pythagorean tuning forks, crystal bowls, Tibetan singing bowls, and Tibetan bells, providing the perfect backdrop for beginning a personal or partnered healing sound practice.

Seed Sounds for Tuning the Chakras

Seed Sounds for Tuning the Chakras
Seed Sounds for Tuning the Chakras: Vowels, Consonants, and Syllables for Spiritual Transformation by James D'Angelo
2012 | PDF | 5.12MB

A practical guide to vocally resonating your energetic and psychological centers to balance the emotions, purify the soul, and dissipate negative states.

  • Explores the intimate connections between specific sounds and syllables, the 7 chakras, and their corresponding psychological traits
  • Provides toning exercises using these seed sounds to re-tune and purify the chakras, leading to spiritual transformation and wholeness as energetic blockages and negative states are dissipated

Using the Sacred Alphabet--the universal sounds of all languages--sound-healing teacher James D’Angelo explores the intimate connections between vowel, consonant, and syllable combinations, each of the 7 chakras, and their corresponding psychological traits. He explains, for example, how the vowel sound “uh” connects to the root chakra and is found in such words as “support” and “trust,” words deeply linked to the emotional character of this chakra. Revealing the voice as the master instrument for transformation--attested by the spiritual traditions that use chanting as an aid to enlightenment--he provides an extensive selection of vocal exercises to re-tune and purify each chakra and dissipate any related negative states as well as exercises that incorporate multiple chakras for general well-being.

In uniting these sacred seed sounds with their corresponding chakras and psychologies, the author shows how you can enhance the power of these syllables and purposefully harness them for healing, states of deep meditation, and spiritual development. By bringing you closer to the voice of the Absolute, your own voice can be the conduit to the blissful union the soul so deeply desires.

Taoist Astral Healing

Taoist Astral Healing
Taoist Astral Healing: Chi Kung Healing Practices Using Star and Planet Energies by Mantak Chia, Dirk Oellibrandt
2004 | EPUB | 7.6MB

Advanced techniques for utilizing the universal healing connections revealed by Taoist astrology and astronomy.

  • Provides meditations and healing techniques based on Taoist astrology
  • Allows readers to develop a personal practice based on an understanding of their planetary strengths and weaknesses
  • Includes Taoist star practices for expanding personal awareness into a cosmic field of chi that will support others in their efforts to heal and grow spiritually

Taoist Astral Healing provides a step-by-step program for refining our ability to cultivate, circulate, and retain chi from the stars and planets. While the initial focus of Taoism centers on creating physical health that is deeply rooted in the energies provided by the earth, individuals may also draw down energies from the stars and planets to continue to grow in awareness and to develop their full soul potential. Harnessing these energies allows us to break through the cycles of attraction and addiction, promote longevity, and transform the physical and energy body into a “light body” in order to heal ourselves and others.

Taoist Astral Healing teaches how to connect the body with the five elemental forces of nature, as well as the moon, sun, planets, stars, and galaxies. Noting the relationships between specific constellations and points on the body--such as the Big Dipper’s correspondence to the bones of the skull--the authors offer planetary and stellar meditations that allow the inner and outer universes to become more connected. Following the numerous meditations and techniques provided throughout the book, readers develop a personal practice based on an understanding of their planetary strengths and weaknesses and their own spiritual growth.

Take Control of Your Online Privacy

Take Control of Your Online Privacy
Take Control of Your Online Privacy by Joe Kissell
2013 | EPUB | 3.06MB

Learn what's private online (not much)--and what to do about it!

Do you have anything to hide? Whether or not you think you do, your online activities are certainly tracked -- and not just by well-meaning sites who want to keep you logged in or by marketing firms who want to show you targeted ads for products that you likely want to buy.

In the full book, Joe helps you gain perspective on what is reasonable to expect about online privacy and develop a sensible online privacy strategy, customized for your needs. He then explains how to enhance the privacy of your Internet connection, Web browsing, email messages, online chatting, social media interactions, and file sharing. To bring home the most important privacy no-nos, Joe also encourages you to take The Pledge (OK, it's tongue-in-cheek, though it would have saved numerous politicians from ridicule and career-ending gaffes). Plus, parents will find important riinders about how your online actions can affect your children, far into the future.

Whether you have a Mac or PC, iOS or Android device, set-top box, cell phone, or some other network-enabled gadget, Take Control of Your Online Privacy has the advice that ordinary people need to handle common privacy needs (secret agents should really look elsewhere). You'll receive savvy advice about:

  • Why worry? Learn about who wants your private data, and, more important, why they want it. Even if you don't believe you have anything to hide, you almost certainly do, in the right context. Would you give just anyone your financial records or medical history? Didn't think so.
  • Set your privacy meter: Develop your own set of personal privacy rules -- everyone has different privacy buttons, and it's important to figure out which are important to you.
  • Manage your Internet connection: Understand privacy risks, prevent snoops, and take key precautions to keep your data from leaking out.
  • Browse and search the Web: Learn what information is revealed about you when you use the Web. Avoid bogus Web sites, connect securely where possible, control your cookies and history, block ads, browse and search anonymously, and find out who is tracking you. Also, learn how to protect your passwords and credit card data.
  • Send and receive email: Find out how your email could be intercepted, consider when you want email to be extra private (such as when communicating with a doctor or lawyer), find out why Joe doesn't recommend email encryption as a solution to ordinary privacy needs (but find pointers for how to get started if you want to try it -- or just encrypt an attachment, which is easier), get tips for sending email anonymously, and read ideas for alternatives to email.
  • Talk and chat online: Consider to what extent any phone call, text message, or online chat is private and find tips for enhancing your privacy when using these channels.
  • Watch your social media sharing: Social media is by definition social, so there's a limit to how private it can be. Understand the risks and benefits of sharing personal information online, tweak your settings, and consider common-sense precautions.
  • Share files: What if you want to share (or collaborate on) a contract, form, or other document that contains confidential or personal information? Find out about the best ways to share files via file server, email attachment, cloud-based file sharing service, peer-to-peer file sharing, or private cloud.
  • Help your children: As a parent, you know a lot about your children and you have access to lots of photos of thi. But that doesn't mean you should share everything without a thought to your children's privacy needs, either now or in the future, since data never disappears from the Internet. Find a few key tips to keep in mind before you tell all.

The Curve: How Smart Companies Find High-Value Customers

The Curve: How Smart Companies Find High-Value Customers
The Curve: How Smart Companies Find High-Value Customers by Nicholas Lovell
2013 | EPUB | 3.52MB

It’s the ultimate business question of our time: How do real companies make money when customers expect (and often get) products for free?

There are millions of potential customers in the world. Most of them won’t pay anything for your product. But some will pay almost anything. The challenge is to find the latter without wasting time and money on the former.

In The Curve, Nicholas Lovell weaves together stories from disparate industries to show how smart companies are solving this puzzle. From video games to pop music to model trains, the Internet helps businesses forge direct relationships with a vast global audience by building communities and offering bespoke products and experiences.

In many cases, businesses can win by sharing their product (or a version of their product) for free, allowing it to spread as widely as possible. Eventually, a huge number of freeloaders spread the word to the superfans who value that product the most. And a small number of superfans will love a product so much that they will spend substantial sums of money on it—given the chance. These high-value customers are enough to fuel a profitable business. For example:

  • Nine Inch Nails front man Trent Reznor gave away his album for free to find the 2,500 hardcore fans who wanted the $300 limited ultradeluxe edition.
  • Bigpoint, an independent game developer, released three adventure games to 130 million users—and made 80 percent of its $80 million revenue from just 23,000 users, who spent money to upgrade their game-playing arsenal.
  • King Arthur Flour shares useful recipes and tips on its Web site, enchanting a cult of devoted bakers, many of whom happily travel to its Vermont headquarters for expensive specialty baking classes.

This approach doesn’t apply just to digital products anymore. With the advent of 3D printing, customization of physical goods is easier and cheap, and companies can truly tailor their offerings to their customers. A doll company can personalize everything from hair color to eye shape, and automakers and technicians can create laser-scanned replacement parts for classic cars. Although the potential for piracy will spread to industries that believed they were immune to such disruption, businesses have an opportunity to make money in this new paradigm by offering variety, complexity, and flexibility at little to no extra cost.

What Lovell calls the Curve is a ranking of your company’s potential customers from those most likely to least likely to pay for your product or service. It charts their interest against the amount they are prepared to spend—be it nothing at all or thousands of dollars. The curve itself separates your revenue opportunity (willing big spenders, your superfans) on the left from your marketing opportunity (freeloaders, whose only acceptable price point is $0) on the right. The area under the curve is the total amount of money you might be able to get from your customers or fans.

Lovell offers a strategy to draw more people into your orbit than was possible when physical costs limited your ability to expand. The Curve heralds a new era of creativity and business freedom.

With the stock market turning into a roller-coaster ride of all-time highs and stomach-churning lows, where does that leave your portfolio? Pretty much back where you started in 2000. Which may be fine for visitors to Six Flags, but for your retirement, savings, and investments, you'd like to actually get somewhere.

In The Little Book of Sideways Markets, respected value investor and author Vitaliy Katsenelson shows you how to survive a stagnant market that's neither bull nor bear but instead what he calls a cowardly lion—it displays occasional bursts of bravado but is ultimately overcome by fear.

Katsenelson, known for the commonsense principles he has written frequently about in the Financial Times, Bloomberg Businessweek and elsewhere, decodes the theories and cuts to the chase with practical and timely strategies for how you can survive and thrive during a sideways market—a state of affairs, by the way, we should expect for the next decade.
